Seed Area

The CIGRAS Seed Laboratory of is the Official Seed Quality Testing Laboratory for Costa Rica. We have highly qualified personnel and suitable equipment to offer services dealing with physical and physiological seed analysis. Consequently we strengthen the use and trade of high quality certified seeds.

We design, promote and assist basic and applied research on physiology, storage and processing of many types of seeds including vegetables, trees, pastures and cereals. In addition, we test and validate methods for seed quality analysis for those species without established protocol.

The Seed Laboratory furthermore collaborates with academic and outreach activities, not only with the University of Costa Rica, but also with seed companies, boosting technical support and training to conduct seed analysis.

Our laboratory has accredited essays under the quality management system INTE-ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (scope available on http://www.eca.or.cr).
