 In the area of genetic improvement, the primary goal of CIGRAS is to participate in plant breeding programs using both conventional and biotechnological techniques. This laboratory also contributes to genetic improvement in plant breeding through its activities in teaching, research and extension . Our efforts in plant breeding include research with both traditional and new, non-traditional crops .

Given our academic background, research activities are focused on understanding the molecular basis and the physiological principles that control agronomic traits, with anoverall goal to improve crop quality and productivity
